Since the Committee’s founding in 1959, its history has been marked by several events and achievements which have allowed the organization to affirm its role and to support pharmacists in the areas of prevention and health education.

Founding of the French pharmacists' health education committee (CESSPF) at the initiative of Dr Pierre Rolland, President of the National Council of Pharmacists (1954-1958), to promote, organize and coordinate health education of the public by pharmacists. Its motto is Eduquer pour préserver (“Educate to protect”). The Committee, then independent, brought together all the professional organizations representing the profession: the French Council of Pharmacists, pharmacists unions, associations, professors, students... |

Publication of the Committee’s first technical sheets on air pollution, traffic accidents, food poisoning, tobacco addiction and alcoholism. |

The Committee undertakes to provide continuing education for pharmacists. Training conferences are organized by the CESSPF under the title of Actualités pharmaceutiques d’hygiène et d’éducation sanitaire (“Pharmaceutical news on hygiene and health education”) |

1977 |
Creation of Info santé, a health education and prevention newsletter provided to the public by the pharmacist, first edited and promoted in 1978 by the Club Pharmaceutique d’Education pour la santé (Pharmaceutical health education club). |

1978 |
The CESSPF becomes a permanent committee of the French Council of Pharmacists. Its bylaws are changed, stating the composition of the Committee and its essential roles. |

1991 |
Launch of “Patient Info” sheets to be given by the pharmacist to the public to encourage proper use of medicine. The aim of these sheets is to help pharmacists in their mission to inform patients about medicine and to personalize the pharmaceutical act. |

1999 |
Professor Claude Dreux becomes President of the CESSPF. |

June 2002 |
Change of acronym and logo. The CESSPF becomes The Cespharm. Launch of the “Window poster campaign on education and prevention” program to encourage pharmacists to save a part of the pharmacy window to information and prevention. |
